DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The Des Moines City Council on Thursday unanimously selected a new city manager.

Scott Sanders’ appointment begins immediately, The Des Moines Register reported (dmreg.co/1udKGgg). He will be paid an initial salary of $195,000 per year.

Sanders replaces Rick Clark, who announced late last year that he was stepping down from the job after working for the city for more than 40 years. Larry Hulse had served as interim city manager since May.

Sanders, 43, was finance director before being promoted to assistant city manager earlier this year.

The appointment comes as the city searches for a new police chief and public works director. Both are retiring this year.
