FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - A food processing company has agreed to a $330,000 sexual discrimination settlement in a case involving nearly 2,500 men.

The TimesDaily of Florence (https://bit.ly/1rgNrPA) reported Thursday that the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs entered into an agreement with Hillshire - formerly Sara Lee Food and Beverage.

Federal labor officials determined the company discriminated against 2,474 men who applied for semi-skilled machine operator jobs at the company’s sandwich production line in Florence. The men said they were instead steered away from assembly jobs and into dumping and stacking positions.

The suit contended that there was a hiring disparity for male workers because fewer of the positions they were being diverted to were available.
