POINT CLEAR, Ala. (AP) - The governor and first lady have joined a growing number of Alabama politicians calling for a federal judge who was charged with battery to resign.

Gov. Robert Bentley and first lady Dianne Bentley (https://bit.ly/1r5gvYX ) told Al.com Thursday they think Mark Fuller should resign because he hasn’t set an example as a leader.

The calls for Fuller’s resignation come amid increasing attention on domestic violence after several high-profile cases involving NFL players.

Fuller, who was appointed by President George W. Bush, is accused of hitting his wife during a fight inside a hotel room in Atlanta. The judge’s cases have been reassigned and his attorney has declined to comment on calls for his client’s resignation.
