NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (AP) - A judge has rejected a North Adams man’s attempts to reach a plea deal in a rape case because the defendant refused to take responsibility.

Brenton Rohane is charged with drugging and raping a 17-year-old girl in May 2013.

The 26-year-old Rohane was about to plead guilty to some charges he’s facing in Berkshire Superior Court on Wednesday when he was asked by the judge whether he raped the victim.

The Berkshire Eagle (https://bit.ly/1uW5WYG ) reports that Rohane responded “no,” prompting the judge to throw out the plea and move the case to a trial.

Prosecutors say Rohane plied the girl with alcohol, injected her with a drug and raped her when she was unconscious.

His defense attorney says the girl attempted to inject herself and the encounter was consensual.
