LACEY, Wash. (AP) - Joint Base Lewis-McChord officials identified a man fatally shot by Lacey police as a soldier.

The Olympian reports (https://is.gd/Bwq6V2 ) Wednesday an autopsy revealed 26-year-old Kerry Brown died of a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Brown was shot by an officer after police responded to calls of Brown acting erratically at his home. His wife had locked herself and three children in a bathroom as Brown reportedly fired gunshots inside their residence. By the time officers arrived, Brown was in the street, where he fired one shot from a handgun and ran behind a building. When he reappeared with the gun, he was shot.

According to army officials, Brown served in an elite helicopter unit that carries Special Operations troops to dangerous places on the battlefield. He was a member of the 4th Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
