BURLINGTON, N.C. (AP) - A man who escaped from Burlington police last week escaped from the Alamance County jail before he was recaptured.

The Times-News of Burlington reported (https://bit.ly/1uJVrbP) reported that 23-year-old Robert Earl Riddle III of Burlington apparently left the jail Tuesday by pretending to be another man whose bond had just been posted.

Sheriff’s spokesman Randy Jones said Riddle learned an inmate was about to be released and pretended to be him and walked out of the jail. Jones said the other inmate did not try to stop Riddle from leaving in his place.

Jones said the sheriff’s office discovered the mistake and found Riddle at a home several hours later.

Riddle initially was arrested last week, but managed to slip out of handcuffs and escape before being caught again Caswell County.
