NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - Jazz fans can mark your calendars. The historic Newport Jazz Festival has announced its dates for 2015.

The 61st anniversary of the jazz festival will take place July 31 through Aug. 2 next year. The acts have not yet been announced.

The festival celebrated its 60th anniversary this summer.

It was started in 1954 when socialite Elaine Lorillard wanted to spice up boring summers in the seaside resort city of Newport, and asked Boston jazz club owner George Wein (WEEN’) to organize a jazz festival.

Wein still produces the festival today. Over the years, it’s hosted some of jazz’s greatest artists and most memorable performances.

Among the musicians who have played there were Billie Holiday, Miles Davis and John Coltrane.

The festival is now run by a nonprofit foundation.
