SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - President Barack Obama has nominated a Utah Supreme Court justice to serve as a federal judge in Utah.

The White House announced the selection of Utah state Justice Jill Parrish on Thursday afternoon.

Parrish is one of two women serving on the state’s five-member Supreme Court.

She been on the high court since 2003, when she was nominated by Republican Gov. Mike Leavitt

Parrish, an Ogden native, graduated from Weber State University and Yale law school. She served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney from 1995 to 2003.

Parrish’s appointment to the U.S. District Court in Utah will go to the U.S. Senate for confirmation.
