DESLOGE, Mo. (AP) - After an elementary school-aged Missouri boy allegedly threatened to shoot and stab people at school, his parents are facing felony charges.

The Daily Journal newspaper in Park Hills, Missouri (https://bit.ly/1qivwTk ) reports that the child allegedly made the threats at a school in Desloge. His mother is charged with abuse or neglect of a child. His father is charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Both are jailed on $15,000 bond. The Associated Press is not naming the parents to protect the child’s identity.

The child had previously been removed from a regular classroom due to threats of violence. A probable cause statement said the child has displayed signs of mental illness but neither parent wanted to seek treatment.

Police also suspect the boy has been physically abused.
