SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. (AP) - A brush fire that broke out in the Spokane Valley briefly threatened a handful of homes before some 50 firefighters from multiple districts got the upper hand.

KHQ-TV reports (https://is.gd/Ft94pg ) the fire started late Thursday afternoon southwest of Liberty Lake. Burning in brush and trees up a steep hillside, it grew to between 10 and 15 acres.

Firefighters planned to remain on the scene through the night.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
