GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) - The Scottish Football Association has charged on-loan Celtic winger Aleksandar Tonev with “excessive misconduct” for allegedly using racist language toward an Aberdeen player during a league match.

Aberdeen defender Shay Logan, who is black, complained to the referee during Saturday’s Scottish Premiership game at Parkhead that Tonev made a racist remark toward him.

The SFA says on Friday that Tonev is accused of using “offensive, insulting and abusive language of a racist nature.” He has until next Friday to respond to the charge.

The 24-year-old Tonev, who plays for Bulgaria, was making his Celtic debut after joining on a one-year loan deal with Aston Villa.
