CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Officials in Conway plan to spend $500,000 on naming rights for the boardwalk at Coastal Carolina University’s new baseball stadium.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (https://bit.ly/1DnwZSr) city council members announced the commitment this week. It involves the city spending $100,000 annually for five years, and secures naming rights for 20 years.

As part of the arrangement, the City of Conway Boardwalk will feature labels smart phone users can scan and find websites about attractions and dining in downtown Conway.

Matt Hogue, Coastal Carolina’s interim athletics director, said the boardwalk is part of a $2.4 million addition to the new stadium. Construction hasn’t begun yet, but Hogue said even if the project isn’t finished by the start of baseball season next February, that won’t prevent the team from playing.
