JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - If you want to work, or keep working, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, you’re going to need a flu shot.

For the first time, UMMC is making flu shots mandatory for every employee.

Dr. Skip Nolan, Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases, tells The Clarion-Ledger https://tinyurl.com/mdu9xtj ) in years past, they made the vaccination voluntary and last year - only 60 percent of employees got the flu shot. And Nolan says that’s not enough.

Employees have until November 11 to get the vaccine, or ask for an exemption for religious or medical reasons.

Nolan says UMMC began talking about this program last year. There has also been some employee push-back, but they won’t know how many people refuse to get the shot until the middle of November.
