BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - A St. Helena Island man has been cleared of murder and attempted murder charges stemming from a shootout outside a nightclub on the Beaufort County island two years ago.

The Beaufort Gazette (https://bit.ly/XtY05t ) reports that a jury deliberated about seven hours Thursday before returning the not guilty verdicts in the case of 27-year-old Lucas Miles Morgan.

He had been charged with murder in the deaths of his brother, Michael Douglas Morgan, and Dante Bailey. The attempted murder charges stemmed from the wounding of Richard Goodwine Jr. and Richard Green.

All four men from St. Helena Island were shot early June 21, 2012.

The jury deadlocked on a charge of voluntary manslaughter in Bailey’s death. A mistrial was declared and Lucas Miles Morgan faces another trial on that charge.
