TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A man who was convicted of extorting nearly a quarter-million dollars from a woman has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Anthony K. White won’t be eligible for parole for 10 years.

Prosecutors contended the 42-year-old Princeton resident met the woman in Atlantic City in January 2013 and convinced her to invest $18,000 in what he said was an entertainment production company. He eventually pressured the woman into giving him more than $200,000 more and promised a 25 percent return on her investment.

White also was charged with assaulting the woman and making threats against her and her parents unless she gave him more money.

An Atlantic County jury convicted White in August of theft by deception, theft by extortion and making terroristic threats.
