PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a burglary suspect who resisted arrest has been shot.

Sgt. Trent Crump says authorities responding to a home burglary Thursday afternoon found a man standing in front of the residence.

Crump says the man grabbed a gun from a car when an officer tried to detain him.

The officer fell backward while trying to get his own weapon and the suspect allegedly ran.

Other officers caught up to him and the suspect allegedly resisted and pulled something from his waistband.

An officer shot him, wounding the suspect in the groin.

The suspect was treated and released and faces several aggravated assault charges.

Crump says the suspect appears to be a family member who had been removed from the home.
