BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - A jury has found a Beaufort County man guilty of murder in the shooting death of an 8-year-old Hilton Head Island boy two years ago.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (https://bit.ly/1rmfr4s) 39-year-old Tyrone Robinson was sentenced to life in prison after the verdict was returned Friday. Robinson was one of three men charged in the Sept. 1, 2012, death of Khalil Singleton, and the first to go to trial.

According to authorities, the boy was playing in his grandmother’s yard when he died in the crossfire from a gunfight. The authorities say the shootout began when Robinson and the two other men got into a drug-related fight.

Robinson is also charged with pointing a firearm at another person, and with burglarizing a pawn shop several weeks earlier.
