PHOENIX (AP) - A Tempe man accused of fatally shooting one person and wounding another at an apartment complex has been sentenced to 31 years in prison.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 19-year-old Daniel Cody Taylor was sentenced Friday as part of a plea agreement.

Taylor was sentenced to 22 years for second-degree murder in the death of Jeff Ward and nine years for aggravated assault for shooting and injuring a woman.

Tempe police say Taylor crashed a party at an apartment complex on Dec. 7, 2013, but was asked to leave by the resident.

Police say Taylor returned early the next morning and fired into the unit’s front patio, fatally wounding Ward and wounding a woman.

Taylor’s lawyer says his client was coming off a cocaine binge at the time of the shooting.
