LOS ANGELES (AP) - The captain of a sailboat has been arrested on suspicion of DUI after his craft ran aground and began to capsize at Venice Beach.

City News Service reports the boat hit the beach between the Venice and Santa Monica piers shortly after midnight Tuesday.

Los Angeles police officers arrived first and helped four people get from the boat to the shore.

Sheriff’s Sgt. G. Montoya says the captain was arrested on suspicion of driving a boat while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The captain’s name was not released.

The sailboat was left along the surf line until arrangements could be made to have it removed.
