WASHINGTON, Conn. (AP) - State police say a car theft suspect wounded himself with a knife after being shot at by a trooper and Woodbury officer during a chase.

Authorities say the man led police on a chase Monday from Woodbury into Washington and crashed a sport-utility vehicle he stole from a neighbor in Southbury Saturday. Police say the two officers fired at the suspect when he refused to drop a weapon after trying to ram police cruisers.

Police say the trooper used a stun gun on the man as he was injuring his neck with a knife. Authorities say the suspect suffered a non-life threatening wound and will be charged after he’s released from Waterbury Hospital.

The names of the suspect and the officers haven’t been released.

State police and prosecutors are investigating.
