NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) - New London police charged a man accused of trying to sexually assault a 9-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy.

Police told The Day (https://bit.ly/1w2yAbu ) that 37-year-old Clayton Denny restrained the girl Monday and tried to get her to perform a sex act. Authorities say the boy saw what was happening and confronted Denny as he chased the girl into her home.

Officials say Denny then tried to sexually assault the teenage boy and they began fighting.

Denny was charged with attempted first-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to minors and other crimes. He was detained on $250,000 bail pending arraignment Tuesday in New London Superior Court. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer.

Court records show Denny has a criminal record including convictions for strangulation and assaulting a police officer.
