HICKORY, N.C. (AP) - A Hickory teen has died in a wreck and another teen has been charged with driving while impaired.

Local media outlets reported that 17-year-9old Jay Robertson died in the wreck Sunday evening. The 17-year-old who was driving the car also has been charged with felony death by motor vehicle.

Police say the teen lost control of the car and it overturned.

Dominique Canahai drove by the crash Sunday night and was one of the first on scene. Canahai said the driver was still in the car and she helped him out.

“And I told him ‘Are you OK?’ and I was like praying to myself like, ‘God please help this kid,’” Canahai said.

About 20 grief counselors were to be at Hickory High School on Tuesday to help the teens’ classmates. Students had left flowers at Robertson’s parking space at the school, as well as at the scene of the wreck.

At a memorial service Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Hickory, there was scripture taped to the door.

“Grief is a very real thing but hope exists,” said the Rev. Heather Wood Davis.
