MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Macomb County officials say a 5-year-old boy has been hospitalized after being thrown from a dirt bike driven by his father.

The Detroit Free Press reports a 27-year-old Macomb Township man was doing jumps with the boy on a mini dirt bike on Sunday.

The Macomb County sheriff’s office says a woman who was driving by told deputies she saw the man do two or three jumps. She says the boy flew off the bike on the last jump, and his helmet came off. She says she thinks the motorbike ran over the boy.

Authorities say he’s at Children’s Hospital in Detroit. His condition is unclear.

Sheriff’s Lt. John Michalke tells The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens that the father could face a parental neglect charge.
