NORTHFIELD, Vt. (AP) - A museum at Vermont’s Norwich University is the state’s first affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution.

On Tuesday officials at the Northfield school announced the affiliation of the Sullivan Museum and History Center.

The center is a 16,000-square-foot facility that features permanent and changing exhibitions, learning stations, a conservation lab, space for exhibit preparation and object storage. There is also a fully equipped electronic classroom, conference space and a reference room for researchers.

Among the benefits of the affiliation are sharing agreements with all 19 Smithsonian museums, which enables exhibition of objects from the national museum collection as well as providing outlets for Norwich objects to be shown outside of Vermont.

The museum became associated with the Smithsonian earlier this year.
