HONESDALE, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a 15-year-old girl was behind the wheel of an SUV during a crash in northeast Pennsylvania that killed three high school sophomores.

The Wayne County district attorney’s office didn’t disclose the driver’s identity, but said in a release issued Tuesday that she’s from New York.

Officials say five other teens were in the vehicle when it flipped over while trying to negotiate a turn in Paupack Township on Saturday.

Three students from Council Rock High School South, near Philadelphia, were killed.

Authorities wouldn’t confirm whether the driver had a license. The New York Department of Motor Vehicles indicates residents must be at least 16 to get a learner’s permit and a driver’s license.

No charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.
