COLLEGE CORNER, Ohio (AP) - A $15 million renovation is underway on a dam at a state park in southwestern Ohio.

The repairs on the earthen dam and concrete spillway at Hueston Woods State Park are slated to be finished in December 2015.

The park’s manager tells The Dayton Daily News (https://bit.ly/1pBbEjS ) that the spillway’s concrete walls has surface cracks and that water pooling below the dam was seeping underneath the structure.

Manager Mark Lockhart calls the work a proactive step and says there is no danger of the dam failing.

He says workers could finish the project much more quickly if they had drained the lake at the park.

But he says that wasn’t an option given that many of the estimated 2.5 million visitors a year use the lake.
