BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) - A retired superior court judge is joining Roger Williams University School of Law as a distinguished jurist in residence.

The state’s only law school says Judge Judith Savage will teach several courses and will also host a symposium on mass incarceration in the spring.

Savage retired last year after 20 years on the bench.

She was a finalist for a state Supreme Court judgeship and drew praise at the time from fellow Superior Court Judge Susan McGuirl, who called her “the smartest judge on the court.”

Savage earned her bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College and her law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

Before her time on the bench, she worked as executive counsel for Gov. Bruce Sundlun.
