PUTNEY, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles says the failure of a pump fitting on a truck carrying propane gas on Interstate 91 caused 8 gallons of gas to escape at Putney truck weigh station.

The failure was noted Tuesday during an inspection of the truck just after 8 a.m.

The truck was pulling a trailer loaded with 8,300 gallons of propane.

After the leak was discovered, the interstate was closed in both directions between exits four and five, personnel were moved away from the truck and emergency responders were called. The interstate was closed for about 2½ hours.

DMV says that once the leak was stopped the truck was taken Bellows Falls where the propane was removed from the trailer.

There were no injuries or environmental damage.
