ATLANTA (AP) - A Fulton County educator who focuses on helping students in low-income communities succeed will be honored at the White House.

Gonzalo La Cava of the Fulton County School System is among those being honored as “Champions of Change” during Hispanic Heritage Month. District officials say La Cava works with school leadership in East Point, Hapeville and Sandy Springs to improve academic results.

La Cava says he believes all children can learn at high levels, regardless of their background.

A ceremony is scheduled for Monday morning in Washington, D.C.
