AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Richmond County has received nearly $1.1 million to upgrade its infrastructure.

Officials with the U.S. Economic Development Administration say the money will let the area improve its wastewater system, which was damaged by severe storms this year. They expect the work to create 100 new jobs and generate $170 million in private investment.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker says the upgrades are critical to the local economy.

Richmond County officials say the improvements will help support a major manufacturing plant that produces products used by the construction and plastics industries.
