GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - The Highway Patrol says a Greenville trooper charged with domestic violence has been fired.

The Department of Public Safety said in a news release that 70-year-old Charles Homer Rose III has worked on and off as a trooper since 1969 before he was terminated Friday.

Greenville County deputies say Rose’s wife called 911 Thursday and said she was hit in the head. An officer noted swelling and a mark and arrested Rose. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.

Authorities say Rose’s wife, Paula, was convicted in May of arson and filing a false report after setting her own home and fire and blaming burglars who did not exist.

She was sentenced to five years of home arrest, so her husband can’t return home because of his arrest.
