SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Three 14-year-old boys are in a juvenile detention facility after a man was mugged on a downtown Syracuse street and robbed of his cell phone.

Police say the 27-year-old victim was walking with a friend on South Salina Street shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday when three teens rode up on bicycles and started punching him without provocation.

Police say one of the boys displayed a knife while another stole the victim’s phone. Then they rode off.

Police found the boys on their bikes a short time later and took them into custody on robbery charges. They’ll appear in family court at a later date.

Their names were withheld because of their age.
