CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Four Charleston firefighters are under investigation after they were shown giving a “thumbs up” as part of a political ad.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported (https://bit.ly/1pnReVT ) that city Fire Chief Karen Brack said the four firemen are currently the subjects of a personnel investigation.

The firefighters are wearing their uniforms and posing in front of a red fire engine as part of a television ad for U.S. Senate candidate Thomas Ravenel. The city has a rule against employees campaigning on city time.

The department identified the firemen as Captain Robert Fulmer, Engineer David Chappell, Firefighter William Finley and Firefighter Grey Mumpower.

Ravenel is running as an independent for the seat held by incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham. Democratic state Sen. Brad Hutto is also in the race.
