ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Ciclovia (see-kloh-VEE-ah) is happening in Orlando this weekend.

Ciclovia is a long standing tradition in South America of closing roads to cars on Sundays to allow pedestrians and bicyclists the chance to use streets often clogged with auto traffic.

In Orlando’s case, a busy section of Robinson Street that cuts through downtown, and abuts Lake Eola Park, will be closed to auto traffic.

In its place, there will be a tricycle race and a game area featuring giant chess and checker boards.

Transportation official say the goal is to reconnect people to public spaces by walking and biking.

Previous Ciclovia events in Florida have taken place in Miami and Clearwater.
