RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A motorist who struck and killed a pedestrian Saturday night along a busy Raleigh thoroughfare faces a drunken driving charge.

Raleigh police said 63-year-old Clarence Edward Hayes was walking in a designated crosswalk across Capital Boulevard around 10 p.m. when a 2005 Honda Accord hit him. Hayes was declared dead at the scene.

The 24-year-old driver, Edwin Arturo Ramos of Raleigh, has been charged with driving while impaired. Records show Ramos was previously charged with DWI in 2010.

Ramos does not have a listed phone number. It was not immediately clear if he has a lawyer.
