STONINGTON, Maine (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard says a man who disappeared while kayaking in Maine has been found safe and uninjured.

Officials say 43-year-old Tony Cashman of Ontario, Canada, was part of a group of six kayaking from Isle au Haut to Marshall Island on Saturday. The rest made it to Marshall Island but couldn’t find Cashman.

The Coast Guard sent a helicopter from Massachusetts, a lifeboat and a cutter to search by air and sea. Rescue crews, including Maine Marine Patrol, searched overnight and continued searching Sunday morning.

Petty officer Kurt Hein told WCSH-TV (https://on.wcsh6.com/1ql5Fdj ) that Cashman stopped at Saddleback Island, built a fort and decided to wait until daylight to find help. On Sunday morning, he paddled back to the spot in Stonington where the group had rented their kayaks.
