ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (AP) - The National Weather Service says that a small tornado briefly touched down in one suburban Detroit neighborhood, causing damage to homes and trees but apparently not injuring anyone.

WWJ-AM reports that the weather service says the tornado hit the Rochester Hills neighborhood about 6 a.m. Sunday. It says the winds tore the roofs off some houses and knocked down mature trees.

The weather service says the damage happened in a six block area of the northern Detroit suburb. It says the funnel cloud was on the ground about two minutes along a 1 ΒΌ-mile path.

The tornado follows severe thunderstorms that hit the state’s Lower Peninsula on Saturday, interrupting the University of Michigan’s football game against Utah.
