NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans Police are investigating the discovery of the bodies of a woman and a young boy found near an interstate ramp in shin-high grass.

Police received the call at 3 p.m. Monday after a grass cutter working in the area found the bodies. Officer Frank Robertson, a department spokesman, says police suspect the partially decomposed bodies had been at the location for several days.

The cause of death wasn’t immediately clear. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct autopsies.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/1r1OQuk ) authorities are investigating whether the woman and child were victims of a hit-and-run or dumped at the location. The woman’s age was unknown.

Police said the boy appeared to be around four or five years old. The woman’s age wasn’t immediately known.
