WINNER, S.D. (AP) - The case against a Pierre teenager accused of killing a classmate is headed to the jury in Winner.

KCCR-AM reports the defense called eight witnesses Monday and finished presenting evidence by mid-afternoon. The prosecution called one rebuttal witness and then the trial adjourned for the day.

Attorneys for both sides and the judge will meet Tuesday morning to finalize jury instructions. Closing arguments are scheduled to start at noon and then the jury will then begin deliberating.

Braiden McCahren is charged in the December 2012 shooting death of Dalton Williams. Both were 16 years old at the time. Another 16-year-old also was the scene and has been one of the key witnesses.

McCahren is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.
