DRUMMOND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 12-year-old girl has died after a gun discharged in the vehicle in which she was riding on northern Michigan’s Drummond Island.

MLive.com reports (https://bit.ly/1DsPchs ) the girl was shot Sunday morning during a weekend youth hunt. The island is in Lake Huron in Chippewa County’s Drummond Township, about 50 miles southeast of Sault. Ste. Marie.

Authorities say the girl was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle, occupied by two adults and another child, when a hunting rifle discharged.

The girl’s name wasn’t immediately released. The death is under investigation.
