FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A former chief deputy U.S. marshal has been hired as a top operations official in the Kentucky Emergency Management agency.

Richard Knighten will assume the job as assistant director of operations for the agency.

The appointment was announced by state Emergency Management Director Michael E. Dossett.

Knighten has more than 40 years of experience with federal, state and local governments. He served 29 years in federal law enforcement, retiring in 2009 as chief deputy U.S. marshal. Since then, he has served as a chief deputy sheriff and was an area manager for Kentucky Emergency Management.
