DENVER (AP) - A 44-year-old man arrested in connection with a fatal shooting at an Aurora home is facing first-degree murder and felony menacing charges.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/1wHCrem ) investigators believe Elmo Johnson shot and killed his girlfriend, 24-year-old Danielle Griego, on Sept. 15. He was found the next day unconscious in the home, suffering from an apparent drug overdose.

Police say Johnson denied knowing anything about his girlfriend’s death and told investigators he had been drinking vodka the night of the homicide and might have blacked out. According to court documents, the night before Johnson is accused of killing Griego, he waved a gun at her and her friends in a jealous fit.

Court records show Johnson has a long criminal history that includes several charges involving violent crimes.
