FOYIL, Okla. (AP) - Authorities in northeast Oklahoma say one man has died in a church fire that hospitalized two firefighters.

Foyil Fire Chief Randy Atchley says flames broke out Saturday night at the Old Foyil Baptist Church, which had been partially converted into apartment housing. He says the structure was fully engulfed by the time responders arrived.

Firefighters from Foyil and Chelsea spent about seven hours at the scene. Atchley says the fire was hard to extinguish because they couldn’t turn off electricity to the building.

The identity of the man has not been released.

One firefighter was hospitalized for chest pains and the other for dehydration.

It’s unclear what started the fire. The fire marshal’s office is investigating.
