PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - No West Nile virus has been found in the latest round of mosquito tests in Rhode Island.

The state Department of Environmental Management said Monday that all 74 mosquito samples from 32 traps set statewide during the week of Sept. 8 came back negative for both West Nile and eastern equine encephalitis. Results from 69 additional samples collected from 32 traps set Sept. 15 are pending.

West Nile has been found in two mosquito samples in the state this season. Eastern equine encephalitis hasn’t been found. Both diseases have recently been found in mosquito samples in Massachusetts, and West Nile was found in Connecticut.

Mosquitoes are trapped every week and tested at the health department lab into the fall.
