CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - Due to heavy rainfall in New Mexico’s Eddy County, state authorities have issued a precautionary boil water advisory for water systems near the Pecos River.

Extensive flooding has occurred and numerous public water systems in the Carlsbad area have been affected in various ways by the flooding.

Authorities say if customers of water systems in Eddy County notice a color change or significant change in water pressure, they are advised to seek an alternate source of drinking water such as bottled water.

Or they can boil the water for five minutes before drinking, cooking and dishwashing.

New Mexico Drinking Water Bureau officials say no contamination has been detected in the drinking water systems as of Monday.
