PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is providing an update on the overhaul of Kennedy Plaza that has temporarily diverted bus stops and left the site a construction zone.

The meeting, being held with the RIPTA Riders Alliance, is scheduled for Tuesday at the Providence Foundation.

Mayor Angel Taveras has said the project will transform the space into a vibrant public square, which he calls critical for economic development. The work began over the summer.

RIPTA says updates will be provided on management of the space, layout of bus stops and designs for new shelters and signage. City staff will be there to answer questions about the ongoing work.

Some in the community have cited concerns about the redesign and said the project is ill-planned.
