MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Twins say first baseman-designated hitter Kennys Vargas and right-hander Jose Berrios have won the team’s minor league player and pitcher of the year honors.

Vargas won the 2014 Sherry Robertson Award as the Twins minor league player of the year while Berrios was named the 2014 Jim Rantz Award winner as the team’s minor league pitcher of the year.

Vargas began the season at Double-A New Britain and batted .281 with 17 doubles, 17 home runs, 63 RBIs, 50 runs scored and 43 walks in 97 games with the Rock Cats. He was promoted to the Twins Aug. 1.

Berrios started the season at Single-A Ft. Myers and went 9-3 with a 1.96 ERA. He also played at New Britain and Triple-A Rochester.
