GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - A group promoting Wisconsin gun owner rights is suing the city of Green Bay for records that might indicate if the city has a policy on carrying guns openly.

Press-Gazette Media reports (https://gbpg.net/1B19vi7 ) Wisconsin Carry Inc. has asked a Brown County judge to order city officials to relinquish public records. Wisconsin Carry president Nik Clark says it asked for the policies after a member complained that police wouldn’t allow open carry in a downtown farmers market.

Wisconsin Carry asked the police department for copies of procedures or guidelines from the city related to openly carrying guns. Assistant City Attorney Jim Mueller says the information requested is protected by attorney-client privilege and exempt from open records law.

City officials haven’t responded to the suit, which Wisconsin Carry filed in August.
