COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A Columbus fire official says 10 people - including four children - were taken to hospitals after fire consumed an apartment building.

Fire division spokeswoman Lee Cole says two of the residents suffered serious injuries, as well as smoke inhalation, when they were forced to jump to safety.

Four other adults and four children were in stable condition with smoke inhalation. Cole says 10 other people who live in the complex were treated by paramedics at the scene and didn’t go to the hospital.

Cole says the fire broke out at the 32-unit complex called The Commons at Victoria Village in north Columbus at about 8:15 a.m. Tuesday. The cause is under investigation.
