GRANTS, N.M. (AP) - Cibola County has placed two of its top Cibola County Detention officials on paid leave following an inmate uprising that caused $75,000 in damage.

KOAT-TV reports (https://goo.gl/Kx7O6c) County Manager Bob Gallagher confirmed this week that the jail’s warden and chief of security were placed on leave. He says both have until Tuesday afternoon to accept demotions or quit.

Gallagher said the move was made following an administrative audit after an August uprising.

The riot started after two inmates got into an altercation with each other in a housing pod last month.

Gallagher says the audit also found a concise lack of communication between jail officials and the county.
